Brief Author Biography

Marie Waldrep was born in Atlanta, Georgia September 1968. She lived with both parents. Marie has 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She is the youngest of six children.  Marie lived in Fayette County, Ga. and is a graduate of Fayette County High School 1987. She lived in Fayette County all her life up until January 2006 when she finally moved away from the reminders of her abuse.

A Survivor’s Feelings Expressed Through Poetry

A survivor of incest and childhood sexual assault expresses her feelings and healing journey through poetry.

Janet Marie Waldrep began writing from her heart at the early age of 11. Due to her personal experience with incest and childhood sexual assault, she found writing poems helped to ease the pain and facilitate her healing and recovery process. As such, she felt compelled to write this book of poems.

Marie was awarded Editor’s Choice Award in January 2004 for outstanding achievement in poetry by poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry for her poem Still I Cry.

She has created a web site called The Mighty Phoenix with information to help promote awareness and healing of all sexual abuse.

Her wish is that her poems would be an inspiration to all who read them and that other victims/survivors would find the courage to begin their own healing process. She wants others to know they are not alone in the feelings they have had from being a victim and they can now work on healing as a survivor.
